For six months, Connex Credit Union will be working closely with five participants to see who can become the most fiscally fit to win a $3,000 grand prize. Each participant has been paired with a Connex Financial Advocate who will offer real-world, practical advice on how to reduce debt, build savings, and many other helpful financial tips and advice. Connex received over 100 applications for the fifth annual ConneXfactor competition! Below is our update on Allen G.
Allen G.: Making the Grade
Coach: Mike Nowicky, Meriden Branch Manager
Allen has started his new job at the Student Career Success Center located at Central Connecticut State University. His duties include helping students with resume presentation and resources, connecting students with potential employers, and re-vamping the department’s website along with helping promote awareness of the SCSC.
School, in general, is going well and Allen is really excited about completing his final year. He has been able to achieve As in his classes while getting situated in his new job.
As a member of the marketing club, Allen was also chosen to be a social media partner within the university. He is excited about this opportunity, as he really has a passion for social media and the business marketing.
In addition to school and the new position, he has been asked by his mother to help set up and run her cleaning business. With his education and experience, Allen’s mother is confident he can manage her startup successfully. Allen feels that his ConneXfactor journey has given him a solid background on how to save money while eliminating unnecessary spending, so this should serve him well as he helps his mother’s business get off the ground.
As if his plate was not already packed, Allen has started taking Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. He said he is a little sore but enjoys the training. It’s important to have balance in your life, so this new activity is a good outlet that’s also keeping him fit!
Finally, he will be starting his job search for a full-time role that will coincide with his May graduation date. Allen has really come a long way during this contest and has met all of his goals, I’m proud to say. It has been a pleasure working with him and being able to hear about the positive ways his financial life has improved, especially at such a young age. Allen is a great example that no matter your age or where you’re starting from, you CAN get your finances in order and create lifelong positive financial habits.
