Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Proto and I am the new VP of Unbanking here at Connex Credit Union. I am currently a senior at the University of New Haven. I am majoring in marketing and minoring in communications. At University of New Haven, I am the president of the Business Management Club. This entails scheduling and running meetings, coming up with and implementing ideas for events, and recruiting new members for the club.
I commute to University of New Haven from Cheshire because I love having my two cats as roommates (even though they wake me up multiple times every night and fight sometimes) and four dogs as suitemates. At home, I like to cook and bake. The most recent cookbook I obtained is The Sneaky Chef: How to Cheat on Your Man (In the Kitchen!): Hiding Healthy Foods in Hearty Meals Any Guy Will Love. I plan to use this book on my boyfriend because he does not eat vegetables. In addition to cooking and baking, I love to play soccer. While playing for a college or university was too large of a commitment for my liking, I play pickup soccer on Friday nights (followed by the diner) and play in U23 leagues with my friends.
Some of the things I will be working on at Connex include the social media channels, the Unbank Blog, and Connex-Nation. Connex-Nation is our newsletter that targets the millennial generation, and offers valuable financial tips, special promotions, and a fun trivia section where you can win a prize. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. I am looking forward to exploring the use of social media platforms as a means to marketing. Lastly, I am extremely excited to be working on the Unbank blog as I feel I will be able to let my creativity flow and create enticing content for our members to read.
Connex Credit Union’s philanthropic arm is also something I am eager to work with. Between 7th grade and 12th grade, I was a Girl Scout (who doesn’t love Girl Scout cookies?). However, instead of having weekly meetings, we would go out and volunteer. Our main volunteer place was the Ronald McDonald House located in New Haven, CT. We would go multiple times a year and cook dinner for the families who were there. In addition, we would bring something fun to do with the children there such as baking cookies with them. Christmas was always my favorite visit, though. We would all bring two $5-$10 gifts and do a grab bag with the families there. The smiles we were able to put on their faces when they were going through such difficult times kept us coming back, year after year.
Overall, I am super excited to be at Connex. I feel like I will be a great addition to the team, who are all so wonderful and have made my transition to Connex incredibly easy.
