For six months, Connex Credit Union will be working closely with five participants to see who can become the most fiscally fit to win a $3,000 grand prize. Each participant has been paired with a Connex Financial Advocate who will offer real-world, practical advice on how to reduce debt, build savings, and many other helpful financial tips and advice. Connex received over 100 applications for the fourth annual ConneXfactor competition! Below is our update on Brittany C.

Brittany C.: The New Phone Trend? Saving $$

Coach: Michael Nowicky, Meriden Branch Manager

Brittany has had another great month working towards her goals in the contest!  She has saved over $300 by having part of her pay automatically deposited to her Connex savings account. She is also meeting with Will DeBille, of Connex Investment and Retirement Services, this week to set up 529 college savings plans for both of her daughters.   This is another one of her goals in the contest that she’s hoping to knock out.  Brittany is still saving money in other ways as well. DSC_0697

Recently, Brittany lost her cell phone so she did some shopping around and was able to get two cell phones for a total price of $35 per month!  She indicated that DATA was not a major concern; she just needs to make calls and texts, which are covered under this plan.  Brittany is making a conscious purchase according to her needs, instead of following the latest phone trends, and saving a good deal of money.

Next month I will have another great story about how Brittany is saving money, so stay tuned!
