Adrienne D.: Vacationing on a Budget
Coach: Tameeka Lockwood, New Haven Branch Manager
Recently, Adrienne took a vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for her family reunion. Even though it can be very tempting to spend more than you planned for while traveling, Adrienne was determined to make her vacation both fun and budget friendly. Transportation was one expense she was able to eliminate altogether: Adrienne caught a ride with family members who were driving down to the reunion. Next, she experienced another huge savings when her father offered to pay for the hotel in addition to her family reunion ticket fees. The only expenses Adrienne did have to pay for were a few activities and food, and she was still able to keep her costs low by buying food at the grocery store instead of eating out three times a day.
Adrienne also made a trip to Philadelphia, and saved on lodging by staying with a friend who lives in the city. While here, she was able to use her friend’s season passes to the aquarium and took her younger daughter to an inexpensive children’s museum.
Adrienne stayed motivated to monitor her finances by keeping her ultimate goal in mind: purchasing a home. It does help to have a goal to focus on, when considering everyday purchases we make. Adrienne managed to not only take a vacation, but also enjoy her vacation while sticking to her financial plan. It can definitely be done with determination and creativity! – Tameeka Lockwood, New Haven Branch Manager
