For the next five months, Connex Credit Union will be working closely with five participants to see who can become the most fiscally fit to win a $3,000 grand prize. Each participant has been paired with a Connex Financial Advocate who will offer real-world, practical advice on how to reduce debt, build savings, and many other helpful financial tips and advice. Connex received over 140 applications for the second annual ConneXfactor competition! Below is the fourth update on our contestant Frances B.

Frances B.: Finding ways to increase the bottom line

Coach: Frank Pomarico, Hamden Branch Manager

Frances has learned to be very conscious of not overspending and where her funds are going. She is not dining out or spending money on lavish personal care. She is not living off of her credit francescards but instead sticking to her budget. If it’s not in her allotted budget she won’t spend it. She also learned by sticking to the financial plan she can save and meet her financial goals. Most importantly, Frances has learned how to pay herself first by contributing to her emergency savings while staying current with all her monthly expenses.

Budgeting becomes very challenging when you receive pay just once a month. You have to make sure that you have enough to take you through the entire month. The ConneXfactor competition has helped Frances stay focused on her financial goals and to clearly see where every single dollar of her once-a-month salary is allocated. – Frank Pomarico, Hamden Branch Manager
