For the next five months, Connex Credit Union will be working closely with five participants to see who can become the most fiscally fit to win a $3,000 grand prize. Each participant has been paired with a Connex Financial Advocate who will offer real-world, practical advice on how to reduce debt, build savings, and many other helpful financial tips and advice. Connex received over 140 applications for the second annual ConneXfactor competition! Below is the second update on our contestant Adrienne D.

Adrienne D.: Major Goals Require Major Sacrifices

Coach: Tameeka Lockwood, New Haven Branch Manager

I’m happy to report that Adrienne reached her June goals, which she worked very diligently on.  In order to ensure these goals were met, she cut back considerably on eating out and getting her hair done.  Adrienne is now on her way to creating an emergency savings for which we set up a special account just for these funds. adrienne D

Now that her older daughter has graduated high school and all of her accompanying senior year activities have been completed, Adrienne is in full force to meet her new monthly goal.  We re-adjusted her goal for the next three months to make up for the very costly month of May, due to unexpected school-related expenses for her daughter.

Adrienne is also continuing the process of purchasing her new home in addition to preparing for her older daughter’s freshman year of college.  She will also be meeting with Pat Piccirilli from Connex’s Investment and Retirement Services (CIRS) to create a plan for her six-year old’s college education.  Even though her younger daughter will not be attending college for quite a few years, Adrienne wants to ensure she is better prepared this time around to meet this future expense head on. Pat is also going to work with her on a retirement savings plan once her home purchase is complete.  Adrienne and I are taking her older daughter’s school costs and anticipated home expenses into account when creating her monthly budget and savings plan. – Tameeka Lockwood, New Haven Branch Manager
