A Message from our President/CEO
It’s hard to believe, but summer is here and we’re more than halfway through the year. The first part of this year certainly was an active one in my new position as CEO, and I can confidently say that I’ve settled in nicely. We have a wonderful team to support our goals and ambitions for the future of Connex – and the future is bright!
Putting Members Interests First
Our core mission is to “Improve the lives of our members – one member at a time.” We take this to heart and will continually work to help better understand your goals and identify your financial needs. One of the resources we offer at Connex is Unbank University, a free series of educational workshops on various financial topics. We partner with experts from the local community to help our members and the community better understand a wide range of topics, including budgeting, saving, credit scores, retirement, identity theft and much more. It’s been a busy quarter and to date we’ve hosted seminars on understanding Medicare, tips for first-time home buyers, how to build home equity, and understanding the changes and maximizing Social Security. We plan on adding these tips to our Unbank University webpage in the future.
For future seminars, we asked our members what would be important to them. We listened, and later this year we’ll be offering seminars that tackle relevant topics such as wills and why you need one, general automotive maintenance and additional Medicare and Social Security seminars. Our goal is to help you better understand important topics that could have an impact on your financial well-being. We look forward to seeing you at the next one!
Connex Cares: Community Support and Programs
Connex Credit Union has a long and proud tradition of supporting the communities we serve. Recently, 10 members of the Connex Team participated in a home build for Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven; Connex also supported the build with a $1,000 donation.
Another way we continually support the community is through our Coins for Change program. Our coin machines are located in our Guilford, Hamden, North Haven and Wallingford branches. We donate 100 percent of the fees collected from our coin-counting machines to caring organizations in the community. In the second quarter, our Coins for Change program helped raise money for MADD, Hamden Hall Day School, North Haven Rotary and Yaleville’s 5th Grade Class. Bring your spare change in today and help support a local cause!
Growth, Technology and More!
I am proud to report that our lending business is stronger than ever, and as we head through the summer, we will offer a variety of loans at extremely attractive rates, including home equity loans, fixed rate mortgages, adjustable rate mortgages, personal loans, auto loans and more. Our goal is to be your primary resource for your financial needs by delivering superior service along with attractive rates in products that fit you best.
It’s been an exciting year so far in the technology arena for Connex. In late April, we launched our first mobile banking app and have received great reviews from members. This was the most requested technology need expressed by our members. To date, we have more than 3,100 users and it’s growing quickly. We also have an iPad version of the app, and we’re excited to announce that an Android app will be available for Android tablet users before the end of 2013.
Recently we’ve revisited our SEG (Select Employer Group) relationships and have welcomed three new SEGs: Hill Health Systems with over 300 new employees, Advanced Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with 250 employees and Colony Hardware with over 100 employees. We look forward to meeting with current and new SEGs to energize the employee base and share with them the new products and services we offer.
Lastly, there have been quite a few changes to our leadership team here at Connex. We have built a strong team of respected industry professionals who bring years of financial services and banking expertise to Connex. I would like to introduce them to you and encourage you to share your ideas with them:
- Karen Smith, Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer
- Carl Casper, Vice President of Customer Advocacy
- Jason Rochefort, Assistant Vice President of Customer Advocacy
- Jim Flavin, Director of the Member Service Center, and
- Louise Nestor, Director of Marketing
I look forward to working with them in the coming months as we look to develop new strategies toward our achieving our mission.
Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful and safe summer!
President & Chief Executive Officer
