A couple of our great employees recently participated in a Financial Reality Fair – an approximately 2½-hour, hands-on experience where students, after identifying their career choice and starting salaries, are provided a budget sheet requiring them to live within their monthly salary while paying for basics such as housing, utilities, transportation, clothing, and food. And some not-so-basics like entertainment and travel.
“I think that it was a really great experience for both the students and me. The kids were able to see a real life example of how important finances really are and how important it is to have a budget set up that they can stick to based on their monthly income,” said Jessica from the Call Center. “It was interesting to see which items were most important to them and which items they were willing to go without. I think that the fair was definitely a reality check for a lot of the kids to see how many things most adults have to pay for on a monthly basis. Overall I really enjoyed the opportunity to help the students and participate in the Reality Fair.”
