Should you skimp . . . or splurge?

This article from MSN Money gives a few pointers on what to skimp on and what to splurge on while shopping and why:

It got me thinking…in today’s economy, are people who usually shop for quality more likely to sacrifice it to save a few bucks?  Is it smart to get a quality product that will last you a lifetime or a more affordable alternative that may not last you half as long?  What are your thoughts?
